Chicago Philharmonic Cellist Judy Stone

Judy StoneQ. Who inspired you to pursue music as a career?

A. I don’t know exactly – I just always wanted to play the cello. I got one for my sixth birthday, and I still remember how happy I felt. My parents were musicians, and they worked with me and encouraged my dreams.

Q. What new endeavors would you like to see the CPO pursue in the future?
A. Someday I would like to see a more extensive concert schedule. This could include concerts at other venues, and concerts for kids, or other people who can’t get out to regular evening concerts.

Q. What do you like most about the CPO’s ensemble approach to creating music?
A. The musicians seem to genuinely enjoy working together. This brings an energy and excitement to their collaboration that you might not otherwise experience. This is one of the things that I appreciate most about playing with the Philharmonic.
