Chicago Philharmonic Principal Flute Jean Berkenstock

Jean BerkenstockQ. Who inspired you to pursue music as a career?

A. My mother was a musician, I went to the Dushkin School of Music, and from the age of five, when I started recorder lessons, all I ever wanted to be was a musician.

Q. What new endeavors would you like to see the CPO pursue in the future?
A. I would like to bring our music to more people through more concerts, and have more interaction with young people.

Q. What do you like most about the CPO’s ensemble approach to creating music?
A. I love the passion and romance we bring to our playing which I believe we have gained through playing the great operas. There is nothing else like the emotional quality of operatic expression, and the dramatic elements of the music are our speciality.
